iNurse is an elderly-assist robot designed to maintain the independence and the wellbeing of older adults. It substitutes human presence to accomplish some important daily tasks in assisting elderly people. The goal is to have the robot undertake tasks such as (1) monitoring medicine schedules, (2) studying sleep patterns, etc. The idea behind monitoring medicine schedules is that the robot will be able to observe patients and assess whether they are taking the right medicine at the right time. Studying sleep patterns, however, will serve prevention purposes by detecting anomalies and attempting to stop diseases from manifesting. The primary users of iNurse will be older adults and their caregivers. Patients can enjoy their freedom and independence while preserving their safety. These people are most likely to be between 60-85 years old and suffering from an incapacitating disorder or a disabling condition. Nevertheless, iNurse can still meet the needs of a broader population cluster including healthy adults that have sleep issues or even young individuals that need medical monitoring for any particular reason. Therefore, iNurse will be primarily targeting the health care industry and more specifically the elderly care sector. The robot can be used in both private environments such as a patient’s home and public institutions such as hospitals and nursing homes.
